A plain guide for Guyanese shop, restaurant and business owners: what cloud POS is, what happens when the internet drops, and how to pick a system that keeps selling.
What cloud POS means
A cloud POS (point of sale) system runs your sales software from the internet. You ring up sales, print receipts, track stock and see reports from a browser or device, while your data sits in a secure online account rather than only on one machine in the shop.
That is useful for multi-location shops, remote reports and updates without USB sticks. The catch in Guyana is simple: if the POS only works while online, a dropped connection can stop the counter.
Computing Core has sold POS software in Guyana since 2014, founded by Carlos De Cunha and Loreena De Cunha. We build for local power and internet realities, not only for perfect fibre days.
Why Guyana shops lose sales when the internet drops
Internet outages and slow links are part of running a shop here. Lunch rush, a busy Friday evening, or a weekend market day are exactly when you cannot afford a frozen screen.
With an online-only cloud POS:
- The counter stops when the connection drops.
- Staff may fall back to paper, then re-enter sales later (errors and missing stock).
- Customers wait, or walk away.
- End-of-day totals no longer match what really left the shelf.
If you are still deciding between a simple cash machine and a full system, see our guide on cash register vs POS system in Guyana.
How offline-ready cloud POS works (plain terms)
Offline-ready cloud POS means the software can take sales even when the internet is down. In plain terms:
- Sales keep going. Staff still ring up items, print receipts and open the cash drawer.
- Stock and totals stay consistent on the counter while you are offline.
- When the internet returns, the system syncs. Sales caught up online so reports and multi-location views stay accurate.
You still get the benefits of cloud (remote access, updates, central reports) without betting the whole day on a single connection.
We do not invent fancy names for this. Ask us on a demo how it behaves in your shop layout. What matters is the outcome: the counter does not stop when the line drops.
OnlinePOS, TouchPOS and Enterprise: all online and offline
All Computing Core POS software works online and offline. That covers:
- OnlinePOS - our main POS for shops and businesses. Runs on any type of device. No separate Android terminal product.
- TouchPOS - our restaurant, bar and food plan (Premium pricing). Includes kitchen display (KDS) for the pass. Same offline-ready rule as the rest of the line.
- Enterprise - OnlinePOS with accounting included. Also online and offline.
So you are not choosing "cloud or offline". With Computing Core you get cloud features plus offline selling on every plan we sell today.

When cloud-only (online-only) is a risk
A cloud-only POS that needs the internet for every sale is a risk if:
- Your area has frequent drops or slow peaks.
- You cannot pause the counter for five or ten minutes.
- You have more than one person selling and cannot re-enter paper tickets cleanly.
- You need GRA-compliant VAT receipts every sale, not "later when we are back online".
Cloud-only can still suit a quiet back office or a low-volume desk. For a busy Guyana counter, offline-ready is the safer default.
How to choose
- Ask if it sells when the internet is down. If the answer is vague, keep looking.
- Match the plan to your business. Shops start on Basic or Standard. Restaurants, bars and food places look at TouchPOS. Need accounting in the same system? Enterprise.
- Check receipts. You want GRA-compliant VAT receipts as part of normal selling, not a workaround.
- Decide on hardware. OnlinePOS runs on any type of device. If you want a full counter kit, our hardware package covers it.
- Prefer local support. Setup, training and a Guyana phone number matter when something breaks on a Saturday.
- Request a demo. Walk through a real sale path before you pay.
